Each year the state of Virginia honors a sales tax holiday for Energy Star and WaterSense qualified products. This holiday is observed between 12:01 on the Friday before the second Monday of October and ends at 11:59 PM the following Monday. These four days offer shoppers the opportunity to save money on many Energy Star appliances. The 2009 Energy Star holiday will take place Friday, October 8, 2010 through Monday, October 11, 2010.

Energy Star Qualified Products

An “Energy Star qualified product” is defined as a product that meets the energy efficiency guidelines developed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the United States Department of Energy and is authorized to carry the Energy Star label. In addition to saving the environment, many consumers benefit from savings related to their utility bills.

WaterSense Qualified Products

A “WaterSense qualified product” is defined as a product that has been certified as water-efficient by the WaterSense program which is sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Such products are indicated by the WaterSense label.
